The Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP) celebrated its 20th Anniversary on 7 October with a special event at Furniture Makers' Hall, bringing together members, industry representatives and stakeholders for an evening of reflection, discussion and celebration.
Welcoming guests to the event, Joanna Knight, Chair of the FISP Steering Committee, reflected on the programme's journey over the past two decades and the important role it has played in supporting furniture businesses on their sustainability journey.
Attendees then heard from a panel featuring some of FISP's longest-standing members, including Fiona Edwards (JPA Workspaces), Lauren Thompson (Orangebox), Ursula Bytnar (Task Systems), Natalie Goodwin (Sealy) and Andy Barham (Premiere Kitchens). Sharing their experiences of the scheme, the panellists reflected on how sustainability expectations have evolved over the past 20 years and the value FISP continues to bring to businesses operating in an increasingly sustainability-focused marketplace. Their insights highlighted how FISP has helped organisations demonstrate their commitment to responsible business practices while adapting to changing industry expectations.
Looking to the future, the scheme's Technical Lead, John Hubbard, Sustainability Expert at Fira-International, outlined the opportunities and challenges facing FISP as it enters its next chapter. Topics included the evolving legislative landscape, the development of an associate membership category and plans to expand engagement within the domestic furniture sector.
The event was not only a celebration of FISP's achievements over the past 20 years, but also a reminder of the collaborative effort that has enabled the scheme to grow and evolve alongside the industry it serves.
The evening concluded with drinks, canapés and networking, providing guests with the opportunity to reconnect with industry colleagues, share ideas and celebrate a shared commitment to a more sustainable future.
FISP would like to thank all members, partners and supporters who have contributed to the programme's success over the last 20 years and looks forward to continuing that journey together in the years ahead.
